If the fitted hat you’re wearing is a little loose, you’re either wearing it wrong or it is too large for you, and you should probably need to shrink it. Don’t let your fitted hat become an annoyance or inconvenience, read this post to learn how to make your fitted hats smaller to suit you!
First, find yourself a medium-sized pot and fill it up with water. Place it on your stove and boil the water.
Next, hold the brim of the fitted hat and bring it to about six inches above the boiling water inside the pot. This process allows the hot steam to penetrate the fabric of the hat and the band.
Steam your hat using this method for approximately 30 seconds, then take let it cool for another 30 seconds. Repeat the process four times. You are advised not to steam the bill directly.
Then, place your fist in the hat, use a hairdryer to dry the top of the fitted hat at high heat. Hold the dryer at a suitable distance away from the fitted hat – about six to 12 inches. Flip the hat over, and dry the inner top and band.
Place the hat on your head. Should it still feel loose, continue to use the hairdryer to dry the fitted hat on your head to mold it to your head size.
Using a spray bottle filled with water, spray the inside band along the hat’s bottom. Then, spray the hat body with about six to 10 light spritzes of water. Be sure not to over-saturate your fitted hat with water.
Let the hat sit upright and spray all around the bottom part of the hat, except the bill as it doesn’t help your fitted hat get tighter.
Set the hairdryer to the highest heat setting, and hold it about six to 12 inches away from the hat to dry the top of the hat.
Turn the hat over and point the hairdryer towards the inside band – this is the most important part of the shrinking process. Do this to ensure a snug fit on your head.
Similar to the steam method, you should now place the cap on your head to check for fit. If it’s still loose, continue the drying process with the dryer around the top of the hat for a longer period of time.
