- Cash App Pay will first attempt to debit the customer’s stored balance. If the balance doesn’t cover the transaction total, 100% will be charged to a linked debit card.
- Cash App Pay returns follow our standard return policy. Cash App Pay transactions originating from the stored balance in the app will be refunded to the customer’s Cash App account balance. Cash App Pay transactions originating from a linked debit card or bank account will be refunded to the original card or bank account.
- Customers seeking a refund for their Cash App Pay payment must request a refund from the merchant directly. Should the merchant refund the transaction, it can take up to 10 business days for Cash App to receive the refund. As soon as Cash App receives the refund, the funds will automatically appear in your customer’s Cash App balance or linked debit card.
- Linked Refunds are Refunds linked to a previously captured Cash App Pay Payment. They must not have an amount greater than the captured amount on the original Payment. Note: Cash App has a set a maximum time limit of 7 years to issue the refund. There is no time limit to issue a Refund. Linked refunds refer to either Cash App Pay payments funded by SVB (Stored Value Balance) or a linked payment instrument. The key point is that there is a corresponding Cash App Pay payment record to tie to the refund and the PSP can refund up to the amount of this payment.
Example: The Customer paid via Cash App Pay and the payment is being refunded back to Cash App. That is, the funds are being refunded back to the original payment method. - Unlinked Refunds are Refunds not related to a Cash App Pay Payment (also known as a credit transaction). If an Unlinked Refund is used to Refund a previous Payment and the original Payment is disputed, Cash App Pay cannot guarantee the Merchant will win the Dispute.
For an unlinked refund, there is no associated Cash App Pay payment record to reference for the refund and therefore no explicit refund amount limit, outside of Cash App Pay program limits for unlinked refunds. This makes unlinked refunds more risky to process as Cash App doesn’t know about the original payment, unlike linked refunds.
Example: The Customer paid via their American Express Credit Card but they canceled their credit card so they are requesting a refund back to their Cash App account. The funds are being refunded to a completely different payment method. - Cash App has a help knowledge base where you can search for your issue. Go to cash.app/help
