Know The Difference Between Snapbacks And Fitted Caps

How many types of hats do you suppose there are in the world? Answer: hundreds. There are newsboy caps, yacht caps, berets, baseball caps, fedoras, cowboy hats, pork pie hats, straw hats, beanies, and more. Regardless, some of the most popular hats today are those classified as baseball caps. But even these come in a handful of styles made by any number of manufacturers.

know the difference between snapback and fitted caps

Baseball caps can be classified as snapbacks and fitted caps. Snapbacks, in general, have a plastic strap across the back that snaps together to give the cap adjustability. There are hats out there that have straps across the back which are not made of plastic, but rather, have adjustable cloth or leather straps with buckles or Velcro. Fitted caps, on the other hand, are not adjustable.

Let's take a closer look at both of these caps to see how they differ.

 A Cap Is A Cap – Right?

Not so fast. Though both are caps, fitted and snapback hats differ in a significant way.

Fitted precisely to your head, as its name suggests, is the fitted cap. For the most comfortable fit, you want to know what size your hat should be. This means measuring your head before you purchase your hat. For many, it has an advantage over a snapback because it will fit precisely and not encourage itching on the back of your head – as some snapbacks do.

These hats are comfortable but snug and meant to be worn by, more or less, one person. The individual for whom it was fitted. They are worn backwards or frontwards, depending on your style.

Strapbacks or snapbacks are basically all in one and one-size-fits-all. As explained earlier, some of the adjustable straps are made from plastic with little holes and knobs that snap together, while others have a buckle or Velcro. These are not usually worn backwards as the adjustable strap tends to be uncomfortable. Once upon a time, these hats enjoyed unparalleled popularity for a number of reasons. As of late, however, the fitted cap can have many of the attributes formally assigned to snapbacks, and are, therefore, as popular as their counterparts – if not more so.
