How Would You Describe Your Hat Brim?

Even in the days going as far back as the American West, a hat’s brim was an issue. Since before the settling of the US, we've been bending the brims on our hats. Think fedoras bent down in the front or up on the side; bowler hats with their curly, short brims; and don't forget about cowboy hats. Of course, a whole new level was achieved by cowboy hats – just leave it to those guys to stir things up!

How-Would-You-Describe-Your-Hat-Brim

Once upon a time, who you were could be fairly determined by your hat. Frankly, not a lot has changed! Here, we are going to take a look at the "Brim Situation" and what it says about the person wearing it. We are going to further narrow down this discussion by only referring to baseball caps, since they are worn so frequently by people from many walks of life.

Please take this as it is meant – rather tongue-in-cheek. We are, after all, going to pick apart, judge, and stereotype hats and brims – and the guys who wear them – purely for fun!

Slight Bend in the Brim

There's every chance that the wearer of this brim is sporting a trucker hat. The hat usually faces forward and the brim will be curved or slightly bent. They could contain "catchy” sayings like "Hot Stuff", or have the logo from their favorite brewery on the front of the cap. Outdoor enthusiasts, who like to paddle, hike, or bike during daylight hours can be seen wearing this brim, and as a post activity, end up at the local taco and beer joint.

When not at their day job, these guys tend to travel in pairs. If, a few times a year, you need a great theme party, these guys throw the absolute best! Though they tend to keep to themselves ordinarily.

Brims Worn High and Flat

This brim is frequently pointed high in the air, the hat tilted to one side, and possibly only hanging on to the head by a mere thread. A good dozen times per conversation, this hat will be adjusted, removed, and replaced. More signs of dirt than usual will appear on the brim of this hat, as a result. This guy could work at a ski resort or restaurant between every-night-of-the-week social engagements or band gigs.

The great thing about this guy, however, is that he's always got a laugh and a smile and knows most of the gossip from the area. At the drop of a hat – get it? – this guy will be more than willing to extend a big ol’ hug.

Brims Worn Low and Flat

Commonly referred to as a lid, this hat is probably from the New Era line and made from wool. The hat will always be kept impeccably clean and the logo will stand out beautifully. When it was purchased, the hat's brim was completely flat – and it still is. An affinity for sports is usually held by the wearer of this hat including moto-sports, snow sports, or any other sport that risks life and limb.

Low, flat brim wearers’ music selections are most often unrecognizable or only shared by other wearers of low, flat brims. In a bad situation, however, this person is always good to have around. They may be prone to spontaneous travel and decisions, though. But hey, when things go badly, it's going to come in handy, having someone with such a laid-back attitude.

The Beaten, Curved, and Bent Brim

This brim is frequently sun faded, thin, and severely curved. How severely? Usually the wearer's eyes can't even be seen! On guys that have an affinity for unkempt facial hair, tobacco, beer, fishing, and hunting, you’ll find this type of brim worn. Don't be surprised if a NASCAR discussion comes up when one or more guys wearing this type of brim are in the room. You may not want to ask this guy for relationship advice, but if you've got a hands-on project you need assistance with, he'll likely be extremely helpful.

We hope you had fun with this and didn't take any of it too seriously. If you're looking for great baseball style cap – no matter how you want to wear the brim – look no further than Hat Heaven.
