After purchasing your snapback caps – whether they're made from cotton, have a mesh back, include five or six panels, etc. – you'll want to make sure they are worn properly. There is more to “how to properly wear a snapback cap” than just throwing it on your head – unless that's the look you're going for.
In the United States, members of elite communities favor these hats with their adjustable rear closure. In colorful prints and with team logos, baseball players and athletic fans wear them regularly. As accessories, these hats can't be beat.
If you're just not sure how to wear a snapback, we've got some tips for you. But remember – it's your hat and your head. You do you!
Be Careful Not to Mismatch
With your overall appearance, align the wearing of your baseball cap. If you are dressed to the nines, a baseball cap might not be the right choice. But even this is up for debate in certain circles.
If you're going to sporting events, baseball caps are almost a given. Just hanging out with your friends? Again, they're a great choice. If you’re going to the beach, picnicking, going for a walk in the woods, or participating in a quick pickup game (here's a good place to wear your hat backwards), baseball caps are an absolute "can do".
There are actually very few places that would absolutely discourage wearing the all-American favorite – the snapback baseball cap. Just use good judgment.
The Backward Intimate Look
Brim facing forward is the traditional way to wear a baseball cap. However, because different people like various styles, some prefer to wear the brim to the back. If you're working and need a good view of what's in front of you, wearing your cap backward would be an option. Some sports-minded individuals prefer the backward cap look, as well.
This is one of those style choices that is largely up to the individual, though, as just stated, wearing a baseball cap backwards does have a practical basis now and then.
How Far Down to Press the Brim?
Some snapbacks have a bill that is stiff and straight, particularly right off the shelf or right out of the box. Whether you leave it straight and stiff as a board or curve it to your liking, is entirely up to you. To keep the sunlight out of your eyes and off your skin, the bills of these caps work great. That said, however, don't spoil your beauty and stylishness by bringing the bill of your hat down to practically touching your nose. Your nose should never be touched by the brim.
For many, keeping the brim as flat as possible is preferable. But each to his own.
Should You Wear Your Snapback Sideways?
You've probably seen rappers, teenagers, and others wearing their snapbacks sideways. If you're following a particular genre, you can probably get away with this. If you feel awkward, however, with the peak sitting on your left or right side, stick with the traditional way of wearing a snapback – brim to the front.
Curvy hats may fit the sideways cap style better. Don't be surprised, however, if the sideways cap attracts some sideways glances. Not everyone is on board with this particular fashion statement.
What About Color?
As an accessory, you may choose to color coordinate your hat with either an entire article of clothing, or to bring out a subtle color by matching it with the color of your hat.
Rather than matching your hat to your clothing, some people match the color to their mood or how they're feeling that day.
