Hats are a great accessory to spruce up any outfit and allow the wearer to express his or her own personality. As such, it’s no wonder that many people around the world have amassed an impressive collection of hats over the years. From baseball caps to dad hats, there are many types of hats available today to choose from. However, most people would have one favorite hat that they would gravitate towards almost every day, though this may result in the hat being overworn. Eventually, this hat would show signs of wear and tear, and let’s be honest, it may not be such a good look. The question now is: How can I keep hats looking fresh all year round? Well, no fret, as we’re here to help.
Brush the Hats
Do you know that our hats are made out of materials that can easily trap dirt and debris over time? This is why it’s so important to brush them occasionally, if not every day, in order to ensure that your hat stays clean as long as possible. In addition, the dirt and debris may potentially damage your hats, causing them to lose their color. The fibers can also stand up if not brushed daily, so laying the fibers down allows the hat to look fresh and new. We recommend investing in specific brush hats, such as the New Era cap brushes, if you’re an avid hat wearer.
Properly Store Your Hats
It should come as no surprise that proper storage is one of the key ways to prolong the maintenance of your hats. If you want your hats to look good for a long time, proper storage can go a long way. There are hat organizers available that allow us to organize and store your hats in a neat manner. If you aren’t finding those, simply hanging your hats on over-the-door hooks does the trick as well, though this is a method we do not recommend for those who have over tens of hats in their closets. Besides, hanging them behind the door can look messy, especially if they become a clutter. Some hat brands, such as New Era, have their own Storage System that allows you to display your hats with just a wardrobe hanger.
For travel, you want to store your hats in a separate pouch or bag away from the other clothing pieces. This is so to prevent the hats from getting damaged in cargo. Investing-wise, you can consider paying a little more for a specialized pack that comes with a reinforced lining that helps to protect the hats from heavy impact.
Clean Your Hats
Just as with brushing the hats on a daily basis, it’s crucial to make sure your hats are properly washed and cleaned every once in a while. Some people use dishwashing soap to clean their hats, but we do not recommend going with this method as the soap can be too harsh on the material, causing the hat to lose its shape over time. What’s more, it may not be the best way to get rid of all the dirt and grime. Instead, use your hands and carefully wash the hat using room temperature water. For avid hat wearers, do consider investing in cleaning kits that come with the proper tools and soap for washing hats.
