Just like with most things in life, our hats do get damaged as well. That is an unfortunate truth. Due to a number of issues, such as improper washing techniques or simply wear and tear, hats do get damaged easily if you do not care for them well. One of the most common features of a damaged hat is when the brim is broken. If you’re unsure of what a brim is, it basically is the part of the hat that makes it, well, a hat. It is the visor that protects your eyes from the sun’s rays and because of its function, the brim tends to be made from a harder and studier material as compared to the rest of the hat. This is to ensure that the brim stays intact for as long as possible and is not vulnerable to damages. However, of course, nothing lasts forever, so this means that the brim does get damaged as well. In such cases when your baseball cap has a broken brim, do not just throw it in the trash! We can safely assume these baseball caps cost a hefty sum, so you want to ensure that they last in your closet. As such, here are some ways you can fix the broken brim of baseball caps.
How to Fix Brim that is Misshapen
When your brim loses its original shape and looks misshapen, the cap would most likely appear rather silly and out of proportion, and this may cause you to no longer wear the cap. No fret, as there is a way to fix them back to their original form. Let’s look at how a brim can lose its shape. This is only possible if the hat stays in an awkward position for a long time, like when you toss the hat in someplace and some objects may exert a strong weight onto the cap, leading to the brim being bent in an unnatural shape. Therefore, to get back the original shape, all you have to do is apply the same force to bend the brim back. Squeeze the hat and carefully shape the brim to your liking. Another way is to take a rubber band and wrap it around the brim. Leave it for a couple of days and you’ll most likely return to a cap with a normal brim. Some people may also use the mug method, which describes putting the cap into a mug and then squeezing the cap with your hands.
How to Fix Brim with Damaged Edge
No matter how good quality the cap is, there’s bound to have loose threads every once in a while. This is completely normal and can be easily resolved. All you need is a lighter and a pair of scissors. If you notice any loose ends, take the pair of scissors and trim them off. For peskier threads, take a lighter and burn them off. However, do be careful with this method as you do not want to burn any parts of your cap. Another way the brim can get damaged is when the color falls off. Once again, this comes with wear and tear and can be quickly solved through a rather obvious solution. Take a marker and simply color the part when your cap is discolored. Trust us when we say that people aren’t likely to notice this change from afar. It’s a fast and easy solution that does the trick well and won’t break the bank, what’s not to like?
