Just like with most accessories, some people may prefer their hat’s brim to be curvier, while others may prefer it to be flatter. It honestly depends on what styles you like and what look you’re going for. However, when it comes to baseball caps, it’s good to bend them in order to give that sporty look. To find out how to bend the brim on a hat, simply follow the instructions listed below.
Step One: Take a Container
Next time you have a Chinese takeout, remember to save the plastic containers as they come in handy to bend the brim of your hats. Of course, do wash them after eating as you don’t want those oils to damage the material of your hats. Do note that these containers are only useful if you’re wanting to achieve a small to medium curve on the brim. For a deeper curve, you need something more rounded. A cup will do the trick!
Step Two: Put the Brim Under Hot Water
After you have gotten hold of the containers, you want to take the hat into the bathroom and place it under the faucet. Turn on the hot water and carefully wet the top and bottom of the brim. Make sure the hot water does not touch the other parts of the hat as this can ruin the material and the color may fall off.
Step Three: Roll the Brim
Once the brim is wet, roll the brim to your desired stage. In this process, it’s important to make sure not to bend the brim too hard. Instead, take small steps at a time by gently rounding the brim until it starts to look curvier. This process is made possible due to the vapor released from the hot water. The hot steam helps to open up the pores in the fabric of the cap, making it easier for you to alter the shape slightly.
Step Four: Place Hat Into Container
This is the time to take out that container. After you have shaped the brim into your preferred curve, insert the cap into the container. The container acts as a mold of some sort to support your hat as it continues to be shaped slowly. Do ensure that the hat is inserted properly and all the sides of the cap are placed inside the container in order for the brim to turn out round in the end.
Step Five: Remove the Hat from the Container
Usually, you would have to wait two hours in order for the brim of the hat to reflect a change. Once the time is up, all you have to do now is carefully shape the brim using your hands to the final desired look.
Step Six: Dry the Hat
Now, simply place the hat on a doorknob or anywhere with a hook and let the hat dry for about an hour or so. Do make sure to continue shaping the brim along the way and you’ll soon achieve your desired bend over time.
