In Corvallis, Oregon, you will find a land-grant research university referred to as OSU or Oregon State University. With a variety of doctoral and graduate degrees, more than 200 undergraduate degree programs are offered by this university. It is one of the state’s largest, with student enrollment averaging around 32,000. More than 230,000 students have graduated from this university since its founding.
Grants And Research
OSU participates in the space-grant, sea-grant, and sun-grant research consortia. In fact, in the entire country, only four such universities do so (Pennsylvania State University, Cornell University, and University of Hawaii at Manoa are the others). In the 2017 fiscal year, Oregon received $441 million in research funding! As research funding earners go, OSU consistently ranks as one of the top earners in the state.
Athletics and More
In 2008, Oregon State was picked as an American premier university in rankings involving overall performance, athletic opportunity, and academics. In the nation's "Elite 50", this university placed 29th in a Stack Magazine ranking – and has appeared in many Stack rankings since then.
An official mascot of the University was first recognized in 1893, going by the name of "Jimmie the Coyote". Sadly for Jimmie, however, he was replaced by today's mascot – Benny Beaver – in 1910.
As one of four charter members, the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference was joined by the University's varsity athletic teams in 1915.
Home Team Locations
For the school's football team, home field is Reser Stadium. In 1952, for the very first time, the football sidelines were graced by Benny Beaver. In 1953, Parker Stadium was added to the campus. Reser Stadium was eventually expanded thanks to fundraising taking place in 2006 and 2007.
But football is not the only home sport:
- Trysting Tee’s is designated as the home golf course of the University of Oregon State. Here, champion-worthy practice and golf facilities are featured.
- Gill Coliseum is where basketball games are held for the University.
- The Collegiate Wrestling Team wrestles in the University's Coliseum.
- Goss Stadium at Coleman Field is where baseball is played.
