Representing Georgetown University in college sports are the Georgetown Hoyas.
You may be asking yourself, "What is a Hoya?” Good question! Reportedly, using Latin and Greek terms, a student watching a game one day enthusiastically began to shout "Hoya Saxa!” This loosely translates into "What Rocks!" Soon after (in 1920), all Georgetown teams adopted the term because of its popularity. So, their bulldog mascot "Jack" has nothing to do with the name itself.
