A Guide To Organizing Your Hats

With warmer weather on the way, you may be envisioning yourself lounging at the pool, picnicking at the park, strolling around the flea market, or just daydreaming on a sunny afternoon. Whether you wear it for sun protection or style, a hat may be an indispensable part of one or more of those activities. There so many hats to choose from, after all. Cowboy hats, wide brimmed hats, fedoras, baseball caps… and more.

A-Guide-To-Organizing-Your-Hats

Here's the thing, however, about wearing and loving so many hats – storing them. For storage and for organizing hats, there are numerous methods, however. They can be a little awkward to store, because of the variety of sizes and shapes. What you don't want is to ruin a perfectly good hat because of improper storage. They get damaged and smashed very easily, in many cases.

We are going to give you some pointers as to organizing and storing your hats, so they'll be ready to wear another day.

A Hat Rack

This can be something you purchase at a store or online. But, if you're creative and handy, you can make a hat rack yourself. Putting it in a closet or behind the door is one idea. But you can also use it in a decorative fashion and hang it from a wall or the ceiling, right out in the open.

 Hat Stands

Granted, if we are talking about a large number of hats, you're going to need ample space for all those hat stands. But if you're looking to store one or just a few of your favorite, delicate hats, a hat stand is perfect. It helps the hat keep its shape and out of the way.

S Hooks

If one end of an S hook can be safely hook into your hat, and the other end onto a towel bar, you now have your hat hanging in a safe area, out of the way. This may or may not work for you, depending on the type of hats you own.

Drawers

Whether you use dresser drawers or the drawers of some other type of cabinet-like furniture, baseball caps store beautifully here. By folding in the back and placing them one right in front of the other, you can create rows of hats that will be viewable simply by sliding the drawer open. Your hats keep their shape and are out of sight.

Wall Hanging

You can actually create a work of art on one wall by hanging your hats there. If it's safe to do so, use a nail or pushpin to hang hats in a creatively organized fashion. Once again, this may not work for all hats.

If you don't have an entire wall or section to hang your hat, consider hanging them in a row on a shelf above a window. This space is seldom used for pictures or other wall hangings.

Hat Boxes

These come in a number of sizes and, if you do it right, you may be able to stack more than one hat per box. Display decorative boxes stacked on top of each other or set them in a closet.

Stacking Hats

As long as the hats will keep their shape and not become crushed by stacking them on top of one another, this is always an option. Find an imaginative place to do your stacking and you have an even better method. One suggestion: A rustic, Bohemian hanger. (This is basically a plate with macramé rope supporting it. It hangs from the ceiling.)

Lines and Clothespins

Whether you string a lightweight rope (clothesline) along the wall or use a decorative chain across one corner of the room, you can use clothespins to hang your hats from either one.
